A guide to a romantic staycation in the Lake District

With so much going on in day to day life it can often seem impossible to spend time with your partner. Sometimes a little a break is exactly what you need, both in order to relax and also to reconnect with one other. To be able to have the opportunity to do this, you don’t have to worry about jetting off to somewhere extremely exotic, there are plenty of romantic destinations right on your doorstep! As the place that inspired romantic poets Keats and Coleridge; the Lake District is certainly one of the most romantic places in England. Boasting activities for every couple; the Lakes offers everything you could possibly need, whether you’re looking for a weekend of exploring a new place or for cosying up on the couch and enjoying each other’s company.

The Lake District is so vast and has so much to offer, there’s no doubt you’ll be spoilt for choice. Planning a romantic break can be a little daunting, after all you will of course want it to be perfect; which is why we’ve put together this handy guide to help you along the way. 

Location, Location, Location…

To experience views from the water, Windermere offers the Windermere Lake Cruise which, whilst a little windy, provides some of the best views available. If you’re the hiking type why not push yourself and walk one of the three peaks; Scafell Pike is England’s tallest mountain and boasts some of the best views of the Lakes! There are also plenty of historical sites to visit; did you know the Lakes was home to a whole host of famous faces such as William Wordsworth? If visiting the area, you’ll also have the opportunity to visit his Lake District home; Dove Cottage. 

There Aren’t Just Stars in The Sky 

Sure, the Lake District boasts a stunning starry nights sky above the Lakes but that’s not the only place you’ll find stars. The Lake District is home to several Michelin starred restaurants; some of which you may have heard of. L’Enclume is Cumbria’s only two Michelin starred restaurant and books up months in advance, but if you do your preparation early, you can surely impress your partner with a visit to this famous restaurant. But have no fear, if spontaneity is more your style, The Forest Side at Grassmere is another Michelin starred restaurant worth a visit; serving the finest locally sourced seasonal produce.

Little Luxuries

No romantic trip is complete without some little luxuries and surprises. For an added dose of indulgence consider booking a cottage or cabin with a hot tub; the ultimate relaxing addition. Pack some romantic extras like a bottle of champagne or some chocolates and surprise your loved one on arrival. If a serious unwind is needed, there are a range of fantastic local spa’s that offer day packages, meaning you both have the opportunity for a well-earned break. 

However you choose to spend your romantic staycation in the Lake District, be present and appreciate the time with your loved one; making sure to enjoy your beautiful surroundings and allowing yourselves to relax and unwind.
