How to Make the Most of Your Garden Deck This Winter?

When the temperature drops and the days get shorter, homeowners tend to head indoors for the winter, it’s such a shame! When you spend so much time creating a wonderful outdoor deck, the last thing you want is to shut it away for months on end. These are the things you can do to make the most of your garden deck through autumn and winter.

Add a fire pit or outdoor heaters

One of the best ways to make your garden deck more appealing for the winter is to add a heat source! A fire pit is a lovely focal point in any garden and will kick out enough heat to keep you and the whole family warm throughout the entire evening (don’t forget to bring the marshmallows!)

If you’re planning to use your fire pit on top of your garden deck, you should opt for something raised up on legs, or something that can sit on a sunken onto a square of patio, like the one shown above. This will help to ensure that the heat from the fire doesn’t damage your composite decking.

Don’t worry, if a fire pit sounds a little too risky for your garden, there are other options for you to choose from. Most home and garden stores supply a great range of outdoor heaters which can be installed over your deck for improved comfort and warmth. Some garden heaters even come with stereo and light functions, perfect if you’re having a few guests round on a cold evening.

Add outdoor lights

You can instantly transform your garden deck by adding a selection of outdoor lights. Whether you choose fairy lights or lights built right into the deck – you can be sure that some illumination will come in handy during the darker nights and mornings.

Installing lights on your decking is also a very important safety feature for the winter months. You don’t want to take a stumble or fall on an icy patch because you couldn’t see where you were going.

Install a garden room

Although this one might take a bit of planning, it’s a really worthwhile investment if you want to make the most of your garden deck through winter. Nowadays, garden rooms don’t have to be a chilly space that everyone avoids during winter. Some companies offer insulated garden rooms that contain heat just like an extension!

You can install a garden room right over the top of your deck, creating a lovely space that you can enjoy during any month of the year. It can be a cosy place to enjoy during the winter and a relaxing place to kick back and enjoy the view in the summer.

These are just a few ways that you can make the most of your garden deck during the winter. With a few alterations, you’ll be enjoying your outdoor space longer than ever before!
