5 Of the best beauty Advent calendars

Jenessa Williams

With Halloween behind us, it’s already time to look ahead to Christmas—and what better way than with an Advent calendar?

With December fast approaching, it’s time to start compiling those lists, placing your food orders and thinking about how to celebrate with your loved ones.

Nothing gets us in the mood for the Christmas countdown quite like an advent calendar, but as gifting options get more and more luxury, a simple chocolate chart simply won’t do. Beauty calendars have become the new must-have, with the most coveted brands often selling out way before the holiday period.

Whether you’re looking to treat yourself to some trial sizes of your favourite brand or fancy splashing out on a beautiful treat for somebody else, here are five picks worth popping down to your local department store for…

ASOS Advent, £55

Ideal for beauty addicts who aren’t loyal to one particular brand, ASOS’s advent calendar contains an impressive array of cult and up-and-coming names.

Including brands such as Carmex, NYX, St Tropez, The Ordinary and Smashbox (not to mention a 20 per cent ASOS beauty discount card), it offers good diversity and looks great too, decked out in an on-trend marbled finish.

Charlotte Tilbury Naughty & Nice Magic Box, £150

No space for 25 items? Charlotte Tilbury’s 12 days of Christmas might be a more prudent gift-to-self. Featuring a range of full-size and mini products, you can expect classics such as the Matte Revolution Lipstick, Wonderglow Primer and Full Fat Lashes Mascara, as well as an array of anti-aging creams and lotions.

Sturdy with pull-out drawers rather than traditional flaps, this box has great options for reuse as make up or jewellery storage. Just try to resist the temptation not to peek in all the boxes in one go…

Diptique Calendar, £300

It may not be strictly beauty, but those who like their home to smell as fragranced as their person will know Diptyque as a market leader in fragrance.

A guaranteed festive sell-out, it’s quite the investment at £300, but with the average small Diptique candle retailing at £24, it’s a cost-effective way to discover new scents.

Each lavish box features a selection of their signature Vinaigre de Toilette, 15ml skin and body care products and mini candles, with day 25 reserved for a special 70g candle. Each item comes in a separate box, making it a good option for those who like to share their advent treats with family and friends.

Lancôme 24 Days In A Parisian Wonderland, £95

Lancôme may be in the title, but you can expect a whole range of French fancies in this set—YSL, Victor & Rolf and Ralph Lauren all make an appearance.

This box is the perfect excuse to top up a travel make-up bag; with fragrance, eye cream, lip crayons, primers and pore minimisers, it probably offers the best value for money on the high street in terms of variety.

Ciaté London Mini Manicure, £50

One for amateur nail artists, the appeal of Ciaté’s mini-mani set lies in the fact that it doesn’t scream Christmas—in fact, its non-denominational packaging could also work as a special birthday or Hannukah gift.

Promising up to ten days wear without chips or dulling, the set includes 21 mini paint pots, one full size, a nail file and a glitter topcoat. Colours may vary, but we’re particularly smitten with Neverland, a soft nude, and Pillow Fight, a dusky lavender ideal for winter daywear.
