Tips for building a sunroom
Building a sunroom provides several benefits. It allows you to enjoy the summer months a little longer and adds great value to your home’s selling price in case you decide to sell it later on. A sunroom is also a great indoor space for your plants, allowing you to enjoy gardening at the comforts of your home
Here are some tips that you should keep in mind when building your own sunroom:

Plan its size and location

Before you even begin the construction process, you first need to consider where you will place your sunroom. There are tons of considerations that you need to think about. Ideally, sunrooms are on the home’s first floor adjacent to the family room or kitchen. You also have to factor in the roofline of your planned sunroom. The slope should be your guide when identifying the size and how it will connect to your home. As a guide, there are some of the things you should factor in:
  • Will the location be placed to the north or south?
  • Do you want it to maximize the view of your home’s garden or your neighborhood’s landscape?
  • Will you need to install a doorway or make use of an existing one at home?
  • Do you want it to exit to your garden or patio?
  • What is the primary purpose of the room?
Once you answer these questions, it will help you decide on your sunroom’s exact location and design.

Achieve a cohesive design

While adding a sunroom may be an afterthought, you don’t want it to appear that way. This is why your sunroom’s design must beautifully blend with your home’s architectural style. Of course, your plan must meet the room’s purpose and your requirements.

Identify the length of use

In some households, sunrooms are used for three seasons only, and this would typically run from April to November. If you plan to use it year-round, you have to plan for it accordingly because you will have to add heating, insulation, and paned doors, windows, and skylights. If budget is an issue, you may want to use it for three seasons only.

Choose appropriate windows, doors and skylights

Remember, the number of internal doors with glass, windows, and skylight will distinguish your sunroom from other areas in your home. Ideally, you should choose thermal pane windows made of glass to allow more filtered light into your home while retaining the necessary heating your home and plants will need. You can also opt to place window screens to provide additional cooling during warmer months. For your skylights, you may require the help of professional roofers like Roofers of Dublin, as proper placement is crucial in ensuring that an ample amount of natural lighting can shower your home without compromising the room’s connection to the original roofline of the house.

Add unique details

After the technical components are settled, you can add interior details that will allow you to bring character to your space. You might want to choose decorations that will help you delineate the interior from your exterior area. Consider adding lighting, outlets, floorings, moldings and trimmings, decorative windows, pavers, and landscaping.
Adding a sunroom needs careful planning. Before you set out on constructing one, you have to be sure of what you want. You can’t be half-hearted in your decision, as it is going to be a considerable investment.
