6 Ideas for the best Easter holidays

6 Ideas for the best Easter holidays
When the kids break up from school it can be difficult to choose what to do to keep them entertained and make the most of family time. With the Easter Holidays just around the corner, here are six different ideas to inspire you to make the most of the break, whatever your age…

Botany Bay

With stunning views of white cliffs and chalk stacks, this beach is a great spot to spend a day relaxing and playing on the sands. Located in Kent and with lifeguards on duty it’s a great spot for splashing in the surf, exploring the rockpools, and hunting for fossils. The Saxon Shore Way passes along the clifftop so it’s an easy walk along to other fantastic beaches like Joss Bay, or across to Margate for the arcades. For a longer stay, why not hire a car for the Easter holiday and take a road trip along the Kentish coast for a quintessentially British seaside break.

The Lake District

If you’re adventurous, climb the rocks at Keswick - or perhaps take a gentler stroll round one of the lakes, like Buttermere. It wouldn’t be a trip to the Lake District without getting on the water though. Explore the waterways of this beautiful location with and see a different view from a kayak on Derwent Water. If you pass through Grasmere, be sure to stop at the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop for authentic gingerbread, rum butter, and other treats to delight the whole family. You’ll also find William Wordsworth’s grave just behind the shop in St. Oswald’s church if you’re interested in the local Romantic poet.

Bristol

Travel to the southwest to explore bustling Bristol. Full of amazing restaurants housed in warehouses that hark back to the city’s maritime history, Bristol has got more than enough to keep the whole family entertained no matter what they like to get up to. The iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge boasts some of the best views in Bristol. There are also fascinating museums, amazing parks for picnics and games, and even a surf centre nearby. Shop, eat, play – whatever you fancy doing, Bristol has it all.

Dunham Massey Deer Park

Located in Cheshire, Dunham Massey Deer Park is the ideal spot for a walk on the wild side.
Keep an eye out for the grazing herd of fallow deer as you stroll under the canopies of ancient trees planted hundreds of years ago. Deer isn’t the only animal attraction here though as the park is full of wildlife. From owls and woodpeckers to bats and rare species of beetles, there’s loads to keep people of all ages fascinated. You can even bring the family dog, as long as they’re kept on a lead. Spring is when the deer lose their antlers, in a process called casting – look hard and you might be lucky enough to find one.

York

Bursting with museums, attractions, and events for everyone, York is the perfect Easter Holiday destination. Going with grandparents? They’ll love walking the cobbled streets for sweet treats in quaint cafes or stopping for an afternoon tea at one of the many historic hotels. Marvel at the majesty of York Minister and the medieval city walls. Or learn about the diverse history of this amazing city at one of the museums, from its start as a Roman settlement through the Viking ages as Jorvik to its current day. There is something for everyone in this fascinating city.

Eryri (Snowdonia)

Head to North Wales if you’re after some wild adventures. Spanning 823 square miles, the authorities of this national park voted last year to refer to the area by the Welsh name. There’s plenty of hills, lakes, rivers, and beaches to explore, but if your kids have a lot of energy to burn, then Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon), should be your objective. Pronounced Uhr-with-va, and standing 1,085 metres tall, it’s sure to provide an exciting adventure for the whole family. Local guides are available to lead you to the top, if you wish.
