5 Most accessible Premier League stadiums by foot
Most Premier League stadiums are just a few hundred steps away from a train or tube station, but which five are the most accessible by foot for fans?
Every weekend, hundreds of thousands of football fans descend on stadiums around the country to catch their favourite team in action. While the excitement of the day is undeniable, travelling to the stadium can often also be a frustrating experience, with issues like traffic jams and over-priced parking to contend with. Thankfully, most stadiums in the Premier League are located just a short walk away from a train or tube station, making them easily accessible on foot. But which is the easiest to get to of all? 
To find out, new research from Betway has revealed which of the Premier League’s stadiums are the most walkable, informing fans of the number of steps they need to take to get there from the nearest train or tube station, as well as the average time it takes and calories burned.  

1. Old Trafford (Manchester United)

  • Distance from closest station: 0.05 miles 
  • Number of steps: 111 
  • Time taken: One minute 
  • Average number of calories burned: 3.7 for women, 4.4 for men 
Taking the crown as the most walkable stadium in the Premier League is Manchester United’s Old Trafford, nicknamed "The Theatre of Dreams". The nearest station is Manchester United Football Ground railway station, which is located just a 1-minute walk (111 steps) away.

Despite the very short walk, there’s still plenty to see on the route. Fans will walk past the statue of Sir Matt Busby, who managed the club between 1945 and 1971, and they might also spot the United Trinity Statue, which honours Manchester United legends George Best, Denis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton. There is also the Munich Memorial Plaque, which commemorates the Munich air disaster of 1958.  

2. St James’ Park (Newcastle United)

  • Distance from closest station: 0.09 miles 
  • Number of steps: 199 
  • Time taken: Two minutes 
  • Average number of calories burned: 6.6 for women, 7.9 for men 
Newcastle’s St James’ Park is the second most walkable stadium. It’s located just 0.09 miles (199 steps) away from the closest underground station, St. James, meaning fans can walk between stadium and station in just two minutes.

During the walk, they’ll pass the Joe Harvey Memorial Plaque, which pays tribute to Newcastle United’s longest serving captain and manager, who is the last to have won a major trophy for the team. They can also keep an eye out for a 9.5ft tall statue of Sir Bobby Robson, who was manager of the club from 1999 until 2004.  

3. Gtech Community Stadium (Brentford FC) 

  • Distance from closest station: 0.1 miles 
  • Number of steps: 221 
  • Time taken: Two minutes 
  • Average number of calories burned: 7.4 for women, 8.7 for men

In third place is Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium. Its closest train station is Kew Bridge, which is just 0.1 miles away from the stadium, meaning fans only have to take around 221 steps to get there.  
The stadium is relatively new, having only opened in 2020, and there aren’t any particularly notable landmarks nearby, though the walk is very efficient at just two minutes. Plus, fans can expect to burn around seven to eight calories along the way.  

4. Amex Stadium (Brighton & Hove Albion)

  • Distance from closest station: 0.1 miles 
  • Number of steps: 221 
  • Time taken: Two minutes 
  • Average number of calories burned: 7.4 for women, 8.7 for men 
In joint third is the Amex Stadium, home to Brighton & Hove Albion. Falmer railway station is the closest stop, and it takes fans just two minutes (or 221 steps) to get to the stadium from there.

In terms of landmarks, there isn’t a lot to see along the walk, though the stadium is very close to the University of Brighton’s Falmer campus, and also lies next to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the South Downs.

5. Stamford Bridge (Chelsea FC)

  • Distance from closest station: 0.2 miles 
  • Number of steps: 441 
  • Time taken: Four minutes 
  • Average number of calories burned: 14.7 for women, 17.4 for men

Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge has come in fourth place. Fulham Broadway is the closest tube stop to the stadium, located just a four-minute walk away. It might be a short distance (0.2 miles), but fans can burn anywhere between 14 and 17 calories on the walk. 
There’s plenty of restaurants and bars to keep fans fed and watered as they make their way along Fulham Road. Plus, they might also spot the statue of Chelsea legend Peter Osgood, who played for the club between 1964 and 1974.
