5 Tips for fast but gentle makeup removal

When you're tired at the end of the day, it's all too easy to flop into bed without first removing the day's makeup and grime. This is not good for your skin, or the state of your pillow cases. Speed up your bedtime routine with these snappy solutions.

1. Simplify

Use specialised eye makeup remover pads to ease off mascara in one quick swipe.

2. Wipe the day away

One of the most effective new beauty inventions of recent times is the pre-moistened disposable wipe. These are light, strong, fine-textured tissues that have been impregnated with different ingredients for different purposes.

The most popular are probably the facial cleansing wipes, which remove makeup and dirt in one quick-and-easy wipe (and, seeing as you don't have to rinse, they're perfect for taking on an aeroplane or a camping trip).

If your skin is sensitive, you may find micellular water more appropriate. This is just as simple to use. Simply dab onto a cotton pad and wipe the grime away.

3. Special attention

Also in the disposable wipe category are specialised treatment wipes, patches and pads.

For example, pads containing mild bleaching agents for age spots and others with styptic and astringent ingredients that help reduce under-eye puffiness. Others offer antiseptic and disinfectant abilities to provide on-the-spot attention for spots, blackheads or acne.

4. Anti-ageing

Give anti-ageing contoured 'patches' a try. Impregnated with wrinkle-fighting ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and collagen, these patches are shaped to fit particular areas, such as under the eyes, the forehead and lines running between the nose and the mouth.

They're designed to be left on overnight as a nourishing treatment.

5. Two-in-one

Try and two-in-one cleanser and moisturiser combination. These products gently lift and remove dirt and debris, leaving a protective mositurisign film behind on your skin.

There are also cleanser/toner combination products that contain ingredients such as witch hazel to rebalance your skin's pH level after cleansing, and so do away with the need for a separate toning lotion or skin freshener.
