10 fashion tips for men over 50

10 fashion tips for men over 50
Being over fifty need not mean you're done with fashion. Adapt and curate your wardrobe so you grow older gracefully.

Get a great fit

Wearing clothes that are a tailored fit means you can look and feel comfortable. It doesn't just mean stay in suits, but look for items such as a blazer or polo shirts that flatter.

Have the same style

Keep your style similar and wear a similar palette of colours to refine your look. Creating a signature style means you can team individual pieces with each other and never have a fashion faux pas.

Be realistic

Accept you will lose your hair, or it's greying, and style it out. Embracing your looks is much more attractive than attempting to comb over a few stray hairs or having a hair colour that's a touch too 'Rolling Stones black'.

Spend on a few expensive pieces

Find yourself some staples and spend the money here rather than on fast fashion. You can afford to spend a little more on shirts, trousers, jumpers and suits than you could in your twenties and thirties. Look for neutral shades such as beige, cream, light blue or for darker colours opt for navy, charcoal grey or deep green.

Spend a few minutes a day grooming

Keeping your teeth white, your nails short and your beard trimmed makes all the difference when you're over 50. Skincare also matters, and there are plenty of affordable men's ranges these days. Opt for a gentle anti-ageing moisturiser and exfoliator to buff your body beautiful.

Keep fit!

Nothing wears a new suit better than a toned body. Ok so you're not Brad Pitt, but exercising little and often makes a difference to how you look and feel. Get some great fitting sports clothes and give the 20 year old's something to aim for in the gym.

Eyewear

Invest in dark coloured, thin frames that are chic and show off your experienced eyes. Glasses for men are a stylish addition to the older man's look and can really shape a face. Visit your optician and ask them to go through a variety of styles that you might not have tried before.

What to ditch

Baseball caps, short shorts, tight t-shirts (if you're on the larger side), sandals, vests, double denim... ditch all these instantly! Take a cold, hard look at your current wardrobe and assess how long ago you wore it, or ask a family member's opinion on the look. Prepare for honesty!

Look to the stars

Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Bill Nighy, Colin Firth, Johnny Depp; these stars are all getting it right and are over 50. Look at their recent red carpet moments and seek inspiration.

Accessorise

Get a great timeless-looking watch, a stylish and simple sleek belt, and comfy socks in natural colours. Accessories are fantastic at adding extra style to plainer outfits, so make sure you spend a little extra on these items and they will last a long time.
