Penguin CBD review: Oils, edibles and topicals
We collaborated with Penguin CBD to put together this branded post. The exploding popularity of CBD has been impossible to ignore. We explore the benefits
If you’ve ever been curious about trying CBD, then now would be the perfect time to jump in. There is a seemingly unending slew of CBD brands out there to choose from right now.
In this review we will be doing a thorough overview of Penguin CBD and their products.

Company background

Penguin CBD is a brand that only recently entered the market within the past year. It’s clear they’ve made a big impression in a short amount of time, though.
Penguin’s mission statement outlines the intent of the company. They strive to make accessible and fairly priced CBD products without sacrificing quality. They also want to remain transparent for the comfort and security of their customers.
So how well do they succeed at accomplishing their goals? Let’s take a closer look.

Product Lineup

Penguin CBD boasts a moderate-sized but well-rounded lineup of products for CBD enthusiasts of all types, whether they’re beginners or long-term users.
  • CBD Oil: A broad-spectrum CBD tincture made from Oregon-grown hemp. It is sold in three concentrations: 250mg, 600mg, and 100mg. It also comes in multiple flavors including natural, mint, and citrus.
  • CBD Capsules: A softgel capsule that contains their broad-spectrum extract suspended in MCT oil. They contain 10mg of CBD per capsule and are available in 30-count bottles for a total of 300mg.
  • CBD Cream: A skincare cream made with the same broad-spectrum CBD extract as the previous products. Comes in 4oz containers with a total amount of 250mg of CBD.
  • CBD Gummies: Gummy worms infused with CBD isolate. They are covered in sour sugar and have 10mg of CBD per serving. Much like the capsules, they’re sold in 30-count containers for a total of 300mg.
CBD oil is the most popular and common form of CBD product. Many people prefer them because you can measure out precise dosages. They also tend to be the most potent, as they can be taken sublingually (under the tongue) and introduced into the bloodstream faster.
CBD capsules a good choice for newcomers, as they will be instantly familiar to anybody who has taken a softgel capsule before. They’re also entirely flavorless so there’s no need to worry about taste. Their portability is another major upside as well.
CBD cream is more of a specialty product than the rest. Penguin’s cream is primarily meant for beauty reasons, such as moisturizing your skin and preventing dryness. It’s not geared towards pain or inflammation relief.
CBD gummies are a great option for those who would prefer to have their CBD in the form of a tasty treat. Many athletes enjoy CBD gummies after a work-out because the sugar gives them a boost of energy. And like the capsules, they’re incredibly convenient because they can be taken on-the-go.

Materials and Sourcing

Penguin states on their website that the hemp used in their products is sourced from their farms in Oregon. At the moment, Oregon is considered one of the top three states in the country for hemp cultivation. That’s because the Oregon Department of Agriculture is known for being supportive of hemp farmers, as well as having strong regulatory practices.
Penguin’s hemp is non-GMO and completely organic. It is grown using eco-friendly and sustainable farming methods. Zero pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers are used during its cultivation. This makes sense given that hemp is already naturally resistant to pests. It also helps ensure that any harmful contaminants are prevented from getting into the final product.
Their dedication towards maintaining environmentally-safe farming practices is commendable to say the least. Regenerative agriculture is something that should be viewed as a standard throughout the CBD industry.

Lab Process and Testing

After the hemp has been harvested, it is taken to Penguin’s labs to undergo the next step. It’s here that the hemp undergoes what is known as a CO2 extraction process. That’s where—with the aid of pressurized carbon dioxide—the cannabinoids (CBD) and other beneficial compounds are extracted from the hemp.
Most of Penguin’s products are made with broad-spectrum CBD. This form of CBD removes all traces of THC, while keeping the cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other desirable properties. The only exception is their CBD gummies. They are made with CBD isolate, which only retains the cannabinoids. It’s a sensible choice that avoids the “earthy” aftertaste of hemp.
All of the products are then sent to ProVerde Laboratories for final inspection. ProVerde is known as one of the most trusted third-party labs when it comes to CBD testing and analysis. They make sure that all products they are fit for consumption. All of ProVerde’s lab reports can be found on Penguin’s website.

Appearance and Flavour

Below is a summary of each product from Penguin CBD with a focus on their appearance, flavor, and other notable characteristics.
  • CBD Oil: Penguin’s CBD oil comes in three flavors: natural, mint, and citrus. Natural is unflavored and surprisingly doesn’t have much of a taste to it. Meanwhile, mint has a pleasing hint of peppermint to it. Finally, their citrus is a zesty blend of orange and lemon.
  • CBD Capsules: Their capsules are the standard softgel capsules that you’ll find with most CBD brands. They have a gelatin outer shell and are easy to swallow with a glass of water.
  • CBD Cream: The CBD cream has a smooth texture and is cooling to the touch. It also features a peppermint-lavender scent that is quite soothing.
  • CBD Gummies: Their CBD gummies are multicolored gummy worms coated generously in sugar and citric acid. They’re tangy and sour, but with notes of sweetness throughout.

Potency

Penguin’s products come in a range of different strengths. Their CBD oil, for instance, comes in 250mg, 600mg, and 1000mg bottles. The single serving strengths for each of these three are 8.3mg, 20mg, and 33.3mg respectively. Their 1000mg bottle is their strongest offering on the website.
Their CBD capsules and gummies are about equal when it comes to potency. Each comes in 30-count containers, with 10mg of CBD per serving. That’s 300mg total for both products. Generally capsules and edibles are less potent than oils and tinctures, but their main selling points are portability and ease of consumption.
Meanwhile, their CBD cream doesn’t have any information about serving potency. That’s likely because it’s difficult to measure CBD concentration in topical products like creams and lotions.  The amount each individual applies will vary as well. However, at 250mg per container, it’s safe to say the potency is fairly light. That makes sense given its a skincare cream and not meant for pain relief.

Pricing

We’ve collected all of the prices for Penguin’s products below.
  • CBD Oil: $45 (250mg), $75 (600mg), $105 (1000mg)
  • CBD Capsules: $45 (300mg)
  • CBD Cream: $55 (250mg)
  • CBD Gummies: $45 (300mg)
Overall we would say that Penguin’s pricing is average for the market. In fact, compared to some of the larger and more popular brands out there, they tend to be on the more affordable side. It gives them a leg up on the competition as their product quality rivals some of the best out there.
As covered in the next section of this review, they also have free shipping for all orders within the United States. This is another positive attribute, as some brands require you to pass a certain checkout price threshold to qualify.

Ordering, Shipping, and Returns

At the moment, Penguin offers free shipping within the United States. Unlike other CBD companies on the market, you aren’t pressured into buying a certain amount to get the best deal. You can just purchase what you want or need without being pushed to add more.
Any international orders outside of the United States will come with a fee, though. This fee is likely to be determined by factors such as location and package weight.
Most orders typically take a week to arrive. This is better than average, as many of the other brands tend to take two weeks or more to deliver your order. So Penguin is a reliable source if you need CBD products quickly.
Currently Penguin offers a 30-day refund policy on all orders. If you are unsatisfied with a product for any reason, you are guaranteed a full refund upon returning the product within 30 days regardless of its condition. Items that arrive damaged can be exchanged for new replacements as well. Before returning a product you should contact their support at happy@penguincbd.com, so that they can send you a free return shipping label.

Final Verdict

In our opinion, Penguin CBD is one of the most impressive new CBD brands that we’ve seen lately. While their selection is not as enormous and wide-ranging as the more established brands out there, they more than make up for it in terms of quality.
From their oils to their gummies, their selection is uniformly strong across the board. We would gladly endorse using any of their products.
We hope that the information provided throughout this review has been enough to help anybody reading it make an informed decision before buying.
