CBD oil vs. Tincture: differences and how to choose

CBD oil vs. Tincture: differences and how to choose
As most of you might know, CBD is the new craze when it comes to consumables and health, but what you may not know is which CBD variation is right for you
More and more people are ditching the conventional pharmaceutical drugs meant to help them sleep better and relieve anxiety in favor of the revolutionary CBD.
However, CBD doesn’t come in the form of only one product. It has many shapes, products and even flavors, from oils to tinctures, topical creams, edibles, and so on.
Oil and tinctures are, without a doubt, the most popular types of CBD products. If you want to know more about high-quality tinctures, you can click here for more info.
Now, let’s take a closer look at oils, tinctures, the difference between them and, most importantly, how to choose between the two:

CBD Basics

As per the information provided by the multitude of studies available, CBD is one of the roughly 200 compounds that can be found in the cannabis plant, besides THC. It comes with a wide range of benefits but, at the end of the day, the significant difference (when compared to Marijuana/THC) is that it lacks the high.
The substance has also been proven to relieve anxiety, pain, depression, acne, and certain seizures. Most people, however, use it because it provides them with a sense of calm and relaxation.

CBD Oil

The oil-based product types of the substance in question is usually blended with another type of oil (classified as an inert carrier or medium-chain). In order to create such oil, CBD itself is extracted from the cannabis plant.
Naturally, since it might be hard to extract only CBD, one can find flavonoids and certain terpenes in the oil as well. Still, some of the best oils out there claim a CBD purity of around 99%.
In the final phase of the process, the natural CBD oil is mixed with the above-mentioned carrier oil and, if need be, the manufacturer can add flavor sources such as essential oils.

CBD Tincture

In general, tinctures are extracts that are alcohol-based. In the creation process of a tincture, alcohol (which is usually high-proof) is used as the main solvent – for what? To extract, from the cannabis plants, all the compounds that are needed to create a CBD tincture.
Naturally, the main result of this procedure is a product that will not only contain a high percentage of alcohol but also one that will last for a much longer period of time. For example, CBD tinctures contain roughly 70% alcohol and last for up to 5 years.
However, one doesn’t need to fear that high alcohol percentage. In most, if not all cases, the bitter taste of these tinctures is covered with various flavoring and sweeteners. The addition of vitamins and supplements can also create a wide range of products.

The Differences

Obviously, the main difference lies in the creation process of the two types of products. Oils are purely… well, carrier oils combined with CBD extracted from the cannabis plant, whereas tinctures contain the same natural ingredient, CBD, but are extracted with the help of alcohol.
Some of the other differences are:
  • Taste—reportedly, CBD oil doesn’t taste very good when ingested orally and alone. This is why it is often mixed in other foods or substances. Tinctures, on the other hand, due to their alcohol percentage, are heavily flavored and much more pleasant to ingest – they can taste like vanilla, chocolate, coconut, and so on.
  • Price—overall, CBD oil of high quality and purity is a tad more expensive than your usual tincture. This is because, in most cases, potency and strength are given more attention in oils. Still, for basic oils and tinctures, the price is pretty much in the same bracket.
  • Availability Period—as mentioned above, tinctures will usually have a much longer shelf life than oils, simply because of their alcohol content. Moreover, the life of both oils and tinctures can be extended if the products are kept away from direct sunlight.
Naturally, another obvious difference is the method of ingestion. Oils are usually taken orally or mixed with other substances, while tinctures are usually administered sublingually, for more effective and quicker absorption.

Bottom Line - How to Choose?

So, how do you choose between oils and tinctures?
Well, it all boils down to how you want to take the substance and how fast you want it to act. CBD oil releases slower within your body and you might gradually feel it kicking in.
On the other hand, tinctures such as those from Liferesearchco favour quick absorption and immediate effects, but this also means that the effect might wear off sooner than you may expect.
Naturally, the price must also be considered. Usually, highly potent and very pure CBD oil is very expensive as the extraction method is considered better than in the case of tinctures. Nevertheless, both types of products come with the same sorts of overall CBD benefits.
