Chapatis are a type of flatbread that is popular in Indian cuisine. They can be eaten on their own or served with curry, dal, and other dishes. Making chapatis from scratch may seem intimidating at first, but it's actually quite easy once you get the hang of it! This guide will provide step-by-step instructions for how to make chapati bread so you can enjoy this delicious Indian staple in your own home.

- 1/2 cup warm water
- Melted ghee or butter for brushing
- Nonstick skillet or griddle
- Rolling pin (optional)

What is Chapati Flour?

Chapati flour, also known as chapatti flour or atta flour, is a type of whole wheat flour used to make chapatis and other Indian flatbreads. It is made from durum wheat, which is a variety of hard red spring wheat that is high in protein and gluten content. Unlike all-purpose flour, chapati flour is not refined or bleached and retains its natural nutrients like fibre and vitamins B1 and B3.
When making chapatis, chapati flour should be mixed with warm water until it forms a dough that can be rolled out into thin sheets. This dough can then be cooked on a hot skillet or griddle until it's golden brown on both sides. The chapati's flavour will depend on the type of chapati flour used—some recipes call for traditional white chapati flour while others recommend using whole grain chapati flour for a richer flavour.

Method for Cooking Chapati Bread:

2. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let the chapati dough rest at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before using.
