Cheese straws recipe

Party snacks don't come much simpler than cheese straws. It's easy to add your own creative twist–try spreading the puff pastry sheets with tomato paste and sprinkling with crumbled feta and finely shredded parmesan.

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: about 15 minutes

Makes 56

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg white, whisked
  • 125g grated cheddar
  • 3 tablespoons finely shredded parmesan

Recipe method

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.

2. Lay the pastry sheets on a flat surface and cut in half. Brush with the egg white and sprinkle with the cheeses.

3. Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into strips 1.5cm wide. Gently twist the strips and place them on the prepared trays.

4. Bake the cheese straws for 10–15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and crisp. Serve warm or cold.
