10 Glorious breakfast smoothies to start your day

I make smoothies every morning for breakfast. They’re a good way of getting more fruit and vegetables into your diet. Plus they taste great and are filling too. Here are some of my favourite blends.

This is the perfect time of year to start incorporating smoothies into your diet to help build up your immune system and fight off all the cold viruses.

Think about adding oats, milk, coconut milk or Greek yoghurt to make them more luxurious.

I have a power blender that blends everything super smooth in a couple of minutes and can handle ice too, but if you have a less powerful blender make sure you add the ice afterwards so you don’t burn out your motor. You may also need to chop your fruit and veg into smaller pieces. You can also juice fruit and vegetables if you have a juicer.

Here are 10 drool-worthy smoothies to get you started:

Pom-berry pear juice

Pom-berry pear juice

This rich purple smoothie is blended from blueberries, pear, pomegranate, lime and raw beetroot.

It is rich, fruity and super healthy.

Orange and apple breakfast juice

This simple juice is perfect for breakfast. Similar juices can be found in the supermarket, but they aren’t fresh and often have preservatives added.

Oranges, apples and carrots are the only ingredients in this healthy start to the day.

There is a trend for serving smoothies thick in a bowl with added toppings of dried fruit, seeds and nuts. I still prefer to drink my smoothies, but why not give this a go and see if you enjoy eating smoothies this way?

There’s hidden spinach, celery and ginger in this green smoothie for extra health benefits.

Mango, banana and coconut smoothie

This smoothie uses a mixture of fresh and frozen fruit, which is really useful when fruits are out of season or when your fruit bowl’s looking a bit empty.

You can also add shredded coconut for extra flavour.

Apple and kale green smoothie

Kale and apple

I love throwing kale into smoothies. It’s super healthy but it’s not overpowering so the other flavours shine.

This one is made from apples, kale, cucumber, banana and some protein powder.

Green goddess smoothie

Another green smoothie, this time one that features kale, pear and melon, with added freshness from some mint.

You could also add cucumber to your smoothies alongside lots of ice. Ice always takes a smoothie from good to great.

Cranberry, squash, apple and carrot smoothie

This is a truly seasonal smoothie with cranberries, butternut squash, carrots and apples.

This one is made in a slow juicer and you can keep the pulp to use in cakes or bread. Ingenious.

Pineapple and avocado smoothie

If you don’t like kale, why not add creamy avocado to thus double pineapple and lime smoothie?

Green mango and spinach smoothie

Another green smoothie but this time using green mango. You can probably see from the photo why I call it green. I

It was almost luminous green but it was utterly delicious and contains mango, spinach, apples and avocado.

Beet, cranberry and ginger smoothie

Another great smoothie for the winter. It even looks Christmassy. Well apart from what it’s displayed in of course. T

he colour comes from the beets, but it’s fruity with a kick from the ginger.
