6 TV Shows We Can’t Wait to Watch

From Game of Thrones to Homeland, 2015 is shaping up to be a great year for television. Here are some of the shows we’re looking forward to.

Better Call Saul (february 2015)

To quote one Jesse Goodman, “When the going gets tough, you don’t want a criminal lawyer. You want a criminal lawyer.” This Breaking Bad spinoff became available to stream on Netflix this month (February), and tells the backstory of how Walter White’s slippery genius lawyer, Saul Goodman, fell into his life of defending the indefensible, and winning the unwinnable.

Explicitly referencing Breaking Bad in its crew, recurring characters and cinematography, this will placate BB fans wanting more, while unravelling Saul’s previously underdeveloped, but gripping, character arc.

House Of Cards Season 3 (February 2015)

Kevin Spacey has playing nefarious villains down to an art, so it’s no surprise that House Of Cards – which sees him as ruthless politician-turned-President of the USA Frank Underwood – was quickly commissioned for a third season late last year.

From the teaser trailer released earlier this month, it looks like the focus of season three will shift from the politics of the White House to the politics of the fractious marriage playing out within it, giving even more screen time to Frank’s utterly horrible wife Claire (Robin Wright). The entire season will be available on Netflix from February 27th.

Game Of Thrones Season 5 (April 2015)

After delivering some of the most brutally gruesome scenes known to television at the close of season four, Game Of Thrones is back, and making good on its promise that ‘all men must die’. Speaking on the upcoming season, scheduled to hit screens in April this year, creator George RR Martin told fans at the Writers Guild West Awards that “people are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy”. You have been warned.

Orange Is The New Black Season 3 (June 2015)

As we left Litchfield on lockdown at the end of season two, with Miss Rosa and Vee both officially on the run, the scene is truly set for OITNB’s darkly hilarious prison hijinks to continue apace. With Laura Prepon (Alex) returning as a season regular, and Jason Biggs (Larry) MIA, everything is pointing to an explosive romantic reunion for Piper and Alex. Of course, their path to true love has never run smooth, so Australian actress Ruby Rose has been recruited to create a tense love triangle with the two.

True Detective Season 2 (Summer 2015)

Forget everything you think you know about True Detective, as season two of this anthology series pledges to deliver something entirely different from what came before. With Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn taking over the titular detective roles from Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, the action will move from oppressive rural Louisiana to LA’s sordid criminal underbelly, where it will abandon the city’s glistening hotspots for “lesser known venues”. Plot points are being kept entirely under wraps, but series creator Nic Pizzollato has written all eight episodes again, so a season of similar genius should be expected.

Homeland Season 5 (Autumn 2015)

After a lull in season three, Homeland came back fighting when season four rolled on to our screens late last year. Thrusting Carrie (Clare Danes) back onto the frontline of diplomatic conflict, season four’s twists, turns and traumas won back a number of disenchanted viewers. Clearly keen to not get complacent again, show creators have hinted that season five might move away from Muslim activity in the Middle East, with Showtime’s president telling Entertainment Weekly “We’re not necessarily going to stay now and forever [focusing on] U.S. relations in the Muslim world… It could be Africa, it could be Europe, it could be back in another place in the Middle East. I don’t expect that show to fall into a formula.” There are also rumours that Brody’s daughter, Dana, will return in an unspecified role.
