Don't scratch! It can make the bite more itchy and swollen and cause secondary infection.

Wash the bitten area with soap and water.

cool down

Apply a cold compress, such as a bag of ice or even frozen peas wrapped in a cloth, to reduce swelling. Don't apply ice directly to the skin.

soothe the area

Soothe the itch. Calamine lotion, ibuprofen gel or antihistamine cream can bring relief and reduce the likelihood of infection and swelling – but don't use them on broken skin. Alternatively a paste of baking soda and witch hazel is a trusted natural remedy.
