William Tang is a content creator and travel blogger who has made a name for himself with his travel blog, Going Awesome Places. He began his journey as a corporate consultant in the software industry, but after feeling burnt out, he made the leap of faith to quit his job and travel around Asia in the summer of 2012. During this trip, he came up with the idea to start a travel blog and share his experience and photography with the world.
Over the past eleven years, Going Awesome Places has become one of the top travel blogs in the world. William has dedicated himself to improving his writing skills, understanding the business side of things, and networking with other travel industry members.
His hard work and perseverance have paid off, as he has received recognition and awards for his photography and videography. He is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC), and Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) where he has been recognized for his fantastic photography and videography. His awards and recognitions can be found on his website.
With a focus on traditional travel blogging, he shares his travel experiences and provides comprehensive guides, itineraries, and packing lists to help others plan their trips to the places he has been.
Going Awesome Places is William’s main brand as a content creator. With a focus on traditional travel blogging, he shares his travel experiences and provides comprehensive guides, itineraries, and packing lists to help others plan their trips to the places he has been. He also reaches his audience through his YouTube channel and all his social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok.
The goal of Going Awesome Places has never been to build a media empire; instead, it was sparked by the desire to build a business that would give William the freedom to travel while also giving back to his readers and empowering them to go on incredible adventures. His business has been inspired by the book “The 4-Hour Work Week” by Tim Ferriss.
William’s background story is of an immigrant child from China who immigrated to Canada in the early 80s with his small family. Growing up, he was always curious about the world and passionate about photography. He studied electrical engineering at university, but his passion for travel and photography led him to start Going Awesome Places, a travel blog and content creation brand, in 2012.
As he looks to the future, William is excited to see the progress of Going Awesome Places. He hopes to continue to empower others to explore the world and make memories that will last a lifetime.
