5 Activities for Valentine's Day singletons
Besides barging through the clouds of heart-shaped balloons and refusing to enter a 10-mile radius of any card shops, how can you survive, and maybe even enjoy, the day of love as a singleton?

Organise a friend date

Galentines
As Sex and the City love guru Carrie Bradshaw once said, “Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.”
The rising popularity of 'Galentine's Day' events (thanks to US sitcom Parks and Recreation) in recent years means February is no longer all about romance.
Why not celebrate a love that's been in your life a little longer and show your single friends how much you appreciate them with a fun get-together?
And this doesn't just go for ladies. A single guy's night is the perfect antidote to Valentine's Day blues.
Do whatever it is you enjoy doing best; put on a favourite film, host a dinner party with incredible food, visit a museum, go see a concert, or just your local pub. Focus on having fun with your friends, without having to worry about telling a significant other what time you'll be home.

Have a day of TLC

If Valentine's Day is the day of love, why shouldn't that involve a spot of TLC? Treat yourself to some self-love and indulge in a day of you-time.
Whether that means pampering yourself with a relaxing facemask, going out for a nice hair cut or massage, or simply slobbing out in front of the television, spend the day doing whatever it is that makes you feel good about yourself.
Taking time out to care for yourself is crucial for a healthy mind, and you may just find yourself waking up refreshed.

Cash in on reduced chocolate

Seek out a few Valentine's Day specific gifts that you wouldn't mind for yourself. Then, like a single Valentine's ninja, wait until the 15th of February and snap it all up in the sale.
You could cash in on enough reduced chocolate to see yourself through to next year!

Fall in love with something new

February is the perfect time to pick up a new hobby. It'll entertain you through the last of the cold months and by the time summer rolls around, you'll already be a semi-pro.
Think about all the things you've always wanted to try but never gotten round to. Make the most of the extra time available while you're single to get out there and do it.
Maybe there's a yoga class you've always wanted to join, a new sport you wanted to try or even just some exciting places you'd like to visit.
This is a win/win scenario. If you are in the market for love, it's a perfect way to meet new people, and if you're not, it's a perfect way to spend some quality time with number one.

Do nothing differently

do nothing new
It's important to remember that Valentine's really is just another day in the calendar. Without the encouragement of the greetings card industry, it really wouldn't be so popular.
In fact, in the USA the day is often referred to as a 'Hallmark Holiday' along with Mother's Day and Father's Day, to suggest it only exists in order to sell cards.
Valentine's Day simply began as the celebration of the Christian Saint Valentinius, but very little is actually known about this figure. So little, in fact, that in 1969 the Roman Catholic Church actually removed his name from the Roman Gregorian Calendar.
That's a fact worth mentioning next time a loved up couple starts spouting their Valentine's Day plans!
