It is impossible to stay young forever, no matter how much you might want to fight the signs of ageing. Everyone will eventually grow old and it is far better to do so gracefully than to fight it tooth and nail every step of the way. However, if your skin is starting to show the signs of ageing, there are a few really simple things that you can do to keep your skin looking fresh and healthy.

Eat tomatoes

Much of early skin ageing is down to sun damage, and this is something that can only really be prevented if you wear sun-cream with a very high SPF every day. Wearing sunblock is something that many people forget to do, or simply don’t want to do, so in this case, it can be helpful to have your skin providing its own protection. Tomatoes are very rich in lycopene, a carotenoid that is said to protect your skin from sunburn. Not only this, but lycopene is also said to help keep your skin smooth, working in two ways to help fight premature ageing.

Drink lots of water

Drinking plenty of water is almost a miracle cure for lots of the things that can go wrong in your body. The body is made up of almost 70% water and the more you replenish this, the better it works. Drinking lots of water helps keep your skin hydrated, helping it to look healthier and smoother, and avoiding the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Chocolate

Everyone knows that as a teenager you should avoid chocolate if you don’t want to add fuel to the fire that is greasy skin and acne. Once you are past your teens and worried about ageing skin, though, chocolate can actually be one of your best allies! Chocolate is made from cocoa, which contains epicatechin, a flavonoid that boosts blood flow as well as the oxygen supply in the skin, and this helps keep skin looking healthier and younger. Try dark chocolate with more than 70% cocoa for a better hit of the good stuff.

Almonds

Almonds are full of vitamin E, and anyone who is trying to keep their skin in great condition will know the importance of vitamin E for healing and repairing skin. Eating almonds helps the body to fight against sun damage and can also help you keep a healthy weight, which is another key element in looking younger. Try snacking on almonds instead of crisps during the day.

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are very healthy for you, and are a fantastic (and delicious) alternative to regular potatoes. Not only this, but sweet potatoes have plenty of the carotenoids that promote collagen production in the skin. Collagen is what helps keep your skin plump, firm and flexible, and the more that your body can produce, the healthier your skin will look.
