A few tricks of the trade applied to some favourite dishes and foodstuffs.

1. Removing avocado stones without fuss


Slice all the way around lengthways with a sharp knife and gently pry the two halves apart. One will still have the large stone in it. Holding that half in your palm, hit the stone with the sharp edge of a chef's knife. The knife will stick lightly into the skin. Turn the knife and stone one-quarter turn and the stone will lift directly out.
