Festive Mulled wine recipe
Warm up on a cold winter's evening with this delightful mulled wine recipe. It's packed with festive spices and contains a Christmas kick of Brandy.
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Makes: 8 servings of mulled wine

ingredients

  • 750ml dry red wine
  • 220g sugar
  • 125ml brandy
  • 2 oranges, thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 2 small cinnamon sticks, lightly crushed
  • 9 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise
  • pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

Method

  1. Put the red wine in a large saucepan with 125ml water, the sugar, brandy, orange and lemon slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise and grated nutmeg. Bring to a simmer over a low heat, stirring occasionally, for 5–10 minutes, until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is aromatic.
  2. Remove the pan from the heat and strain the mulled wine into a large pitcher. Serve warm in heatproof glasses.
