The hugely influential singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen has passed away at the age of 82.

His career spanned nearly five decades during which the artist released 14 studio albums, published two novels and a number of poetry collections.

His last album You Want It Darker was released in October this year, just three weeks before his death. Hailed as “the high priest of pathos”, Cohen was known for his deep bass voice and profound, timeless lyrics about war, peace, love, sex and spirituality.

Cohen’s remarkable songs inspired countless covers by artists such as Nina Simone, Jeff Buckley, R.E.M., Joe Cocker and many, many others. The ability of his words to touch the very core of the human soul will doubtlessly continue to resonate with generations to come. Rest in peace, Leonard Cohen.
